Mighty Sparrow’s World History Lesson is an audio, visual and textual research project documenting the stories behind several world leaders, who were mentioned in the MIghty Sparrow calypso song ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ released in 1980.
The song commemorates the demise of the reign of several world leaders in or around the year 1979. The project will examine the impact and legacy from both the reign and fall of some of these leaders. in particular the project aims to look at the effect all this had on people now living in the UK, both young and old. Some would have been directly caught up and connected to the events as adults and some as children, while others would have been spectators remembering television, radio and newspaper coverage of distant events. In many cases, all these experiences later converged as we came across people at work, school, university, churches, mosques and elsewhere, who had differing experiences, views or memories of the same event.
